Babich
SUSTAINABLY CRAFTED NEW ZEALAND WINE,
100 YEARS IN THE MAKING.
OUR STORY
The Babich family has been making wine in New Zealand since 1916, making us New Zealand’s most experienced family-owned winery. With no less than three generations of innovation, achievement and winemaking excellence across three outstanding winemaking regions – it’s not just our passion, our livelihoods and our future. It’s our way of life.
Winemaking is in our blood.
For all its hands-on creativity, technical know-how and never-ending discoveries – winemaking is always ultimately about people. For us, it’s a direct connection from our family name to each and every wine drinker around the world.
Executive Director - Peter Babich
Peter Babich’s career in the New Zealand wine industry started at just 16 when he joined his father, Josip Babich, in the family vineyard. More than 60 years later, Peter remains active within the business and is as passionate as ever about its success. His life-long commitment to New Zealand’s viticulture and wine industry.
Executive Director - Joe Babich
For more than 50 years, Joe Babich has been the driving force behind Babich’s innovative approach to winemaking. After joining his father and brother in the family business in 1958, he became a highly respected winemaker and has been responsible for more than 35 outstanding vintages.
Chief Executive Officer - David Babich
David grew up with the story of his grandfather’s journey from the other side of the world and his mission to create world-class New Zealand wines. After studying winemaking and viticulture, David joined the family business. He spent a number of years working on the cellar floor and then returned to university to complete a commerce degree. He then gained invaluable experience in sales, marketing and senior management at global pharmaceutical company, Glaxo Wellcome, before returning to Babich.
Principal - André Babich
André is a grandson of Babich Wines’ founder, Josip Babich, and a Director of Babich Wines. In his role as Principal, André has a focus on key projects across the business. André is passionate about all aspects of Babich Wines including its people, products, properties, markets, history, and future.
Vineyards
and wineries
Our philosophy is to have vineyards
in the right regions on superior sites,
and getting the right varieties on those
superior sites. We aim to create wines
that are stylish and refined and have
easy drinking appeal.
Auckland
The location of the company’s
Henderson Valley winery, vineyard and cellar door. Surrounded now by suburbia the vineyard is planted mainly in Chardonnay and Pinotage.
Hawke’s Bay
Hawke’s Bay contributes a substantial
amount of the fruit used for many Babich
wines, including the iconic Irongate range
and The Patriarch.
Marlborough
Marlborough makes a heavy contribution
to the company’s portfolio including
Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris,
and our organic range of wines.
Why we’re passionate about Sustainability.
This means ensuring we can make great wine in balance with our ecosystem. It’s in our DNA. For three generations, we’ve gently worked in harmony with the land and seasons to produce grapes of outstanding quality, making sure that our vineyards and processes get better vintage after vintage.
